Mia
attends the 2003 Annual Belvedere Family Picnic. Mia's great great
grandfather was the first generation in the US from Italy. He subsequently
had 12 children who had children etc. etc. The extended family
now has over 335 relatives for Mia just on her fathers side alone.
This was the first time for many of the family member to meet her.
Mia had a great day. She never had a problem finding a grandmother,
aunt, uncle, or cousin that wouldn't hold her close and play with
her. As Georgi said "people are her favorite play toy."
The family is praying for her return next year and many years to
come.

Mia
met with her team of doctors at Children's Memorial Hospital in
late June. They were very happy with her health and progress and
are moving forward with the kidney transplant prelilminaries. An
approximate time frame for the transplant can be February or March,
2004. Keep Mia in your prayers...

The pasta dinner last Sunday (6/22)
was a great success. The generousity Elmhurst Elks Lodge #1531 where
the benefit was held, was one of the main reasons for the benefit's
success. Also a big thank you for the food donations (names to follow)
and to Anthony LoCascio for collecting, cooking, delivering and
serving all our guests. The guest of honor, Mia, and her family,
dad, mom and brother Frankie, were all there to greet and enjoy
the day. Both Mia and Frankie were asleep in their parents' arms
by late afternoon. A busy day for all.
Again,
thank you to everyone who made Mia's pasta dinner possible.

Mia is doing much better since she came home on Friday. She was
very smiley, sat in her little round baby chair and actually watched
television!!! Yes, at 6 months old she watches television. Mia likes
to watch the Bug Story (correct name??) where the amimated bugs
talk and do things. She also likes the Tella Tubbies DVD.
Little
Frankie gave her lots of hugs and kisses when she came home. He
really did miss her, too.

Mia Went into the hospital because she was having difficutly breathing.
She would cough and herlips started to turn blue. Mia was just getting
over a cold but it took a turn for the worse. Doctors think it may
have been pnemonia but they are not positive. Must have been a virus
of some kind...
She
had fluid on her lungs, her blood pressure was very high and Mia
had to undergo all kinds of tests, medication adjustments, was on
a respirator (tube down her throat), and an IV in her arm. The IVwas
started in the right side of her neck but when the medicine was
not getting into her system it was taken out and put into a vein
in her arm. Because of Mia's movements the neck IV was not working
properly. Mia was sedated to keep her less mobile but that also
interfered with her breathing, which was already being monitored.
Poor, poor baby!!! Eventually the doctors weaned her off of the
sedation, Mia was able to breath on her own so the awful tube was
taken out of her throat.
